Checotah seniors R.J. Womack and Sidney Hamilton received the 2025 Mc-Intosh County Democrat Sportsman and Sportswoman award Tuesday at the Checotah Sports Banquet.
R.J. Womack was a member of the Checotah basketball team where he earned the MCD Defensive Player of the Year award for the second consecutive time and he was a member of the Wildcat track team.
Womack served in multiple community services as he volunteered in Santas Soldiers for four years, helped retired veterans in yard maintenance for eight years without pay, volunteered in summer basketball camp, assisted young athletes in teaching them fundamentals and skill sets and volunteered with Operation Christmas Child for three years.
Womack is enrolled at Connors State College and plans to become a physical therapist.
Sidney Hamilton was a proud member of the fast-pitch and slowpitch softball teams, the Lady Wildcat’s basketball team and a cheerleader. She volunteered for the Special Olympics, Operation Christmas Child, cheer camp, softball and basketball camps, the Salvation Army, vacation bible school and sang at nursing homes during Christmas.
Hamilton was her class Valedictorian and plans to attend the University of Oklahoma after graduation.
In order to receive the MCD Sportsman/ Sportswoman of the year student athletes must compete in multiple sports, carry a 4.0 GPA or as close as possible and volunteer in community service.
“Both of these student athletes are well deserving of these awards. They represented Checotah with class, were great teammates, students and made an impact in their communities,” Sports Editor Rodney Haltom said.
