Netflix has officially announced a captivating new documentary set to honor the indelible legacy of one of college football’s most influential figures: the late, legendary Oklahoma Sooners coach, Bud Wilkinson. Titled “The General: Bud Wilkinson’s Oklahoma Dynasty,” the film will explore Wilkinson’s remarkable life and revolutionary career, with a global premiere date set for July 20, 2025.
Bud Wilkinson, born Charles Burnham Wilkinson, was more than just a football coach; he was a visionary, an innovator, and a national figure. From 1947 to 1963, he built an unprecedented dynasty at the University of Oklahoma, transforming the Sooners into a dominant force that transcended regional popularity and captured the nation’s attention.
The documentary will meticulously chronicle Wilkinson’s extraordinary 17-year tenure at Oklahoma, where he compiled an astounding 145-29-4 record. This included an NCAA-record 47-game winning streak from 1953 to 1957, a feat that remains one of college football’s most hallowed achievements.
