Checotah Roundup Playday season ends on a win

The 2019 Checotah Roundup Club Playday season was a great success. This year there were 38 competitors that qualified in the horse riding events – Barrel Racing, Flag Race, Rings, Goats, and Pole Bending.

The season began on March 31. There were usually two playdays per month on Sunday afternoons. The largest number of competitors for this year was 50. The competitors range in age from one to 18 years old. The Leadline class is for kids that are learning to ride. PeeWee is 8 years and younger, then there are 9-11 years-old, 12-14 years-old, and 15-18 years-old.

This year over $9,000 in cash and prizes was awarded! On behalf of the CRUC Playday Crew, we want to thank all the parents, grandparents, friends, and family that continually support these kids inside and outside of the arena. We would also like to thank the numerous local businesses that donated money to help purchase the prizes for the contestants. None of this is possible without all the volunteers and continual support of the community.

We would like to thank Heather and Jason Combs, Jayme and Buck Fields, Jenny and Spud Duvall, Matt and Brandy McFall, Aaron and Tamara Miller, Dean Casey, and Doug Madewell for taking care of all the behind the scenes work that is done to keep these events going for the kids. The banquet food and drinks were donated by the CRUC Roundup club, Top Value, Walmart, and Casey’s General Store. We would like to thank Michael and Shawnna Wilhite and Jason Moore for smoking the meat. The Chamber of Commerce provided the PA system; thank you Mayor Tarkington for providing us with a location to host the banquet.

In addition to cash that each contestant received, these are the prizes that were awarded based off the total year-end all around results:
