Gene Emberson, Checotah resident, passed away on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020 in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the age of 91. He was born on Wednesday, July 31, 1929 to Joe and Annie (Daves) Emberson in Central High, Oklahoma.
After school, Gene went into the Army during the Korean War.
Gene worked many places, such as Wiser’s Grocery Store, Pete’s Cardinal, Chenaults and OTASCO.
In the 1980’s he ran the stables at Fountainhead State Park.
He married Martha Jo Ledbetter in 1952. She passed away in 1974.
He later married Wanda Johnson.
Gene loved being a cowboy and horse trading. He loved going to the coffee shop and telling everyone what they were doing wrong. He loved to play Dominoes. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Linda Tinney; and his first wife, Dobie; his brothers and sisters, Bessie, Roy, Mandy, Ruby, Ola, Nola, Donnie, Pauline, Earl, Ilah Mae, Lovela and Beatrice. He is lovingly survived by his son, Joe
Emberson and his wife Cathy of Hugo, Okla.; his brother, Hershel Emberson; his granddaughters, Emily King and her husband Thomas of Muskogee, Okla., Jodi Emberson, Pam Moulding and her husband Steve of Checotah, Okla., and Bailey Barnes of Hugo, Okla.; and his grandson, Dylan Barnes of Tulsa, Okla.
Gene is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Kolton King, Kolby King, Kaia Jones, Acey Jones and Ayden Moulding; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
Services celebrating the life of Gene were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 at Garrett’s Serenity Chapel, Checotah, Oklahoma. Military Honors were rendered by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard.
