JIMMY RONALD JONES
Jimmy Ronald Jones, 72, died Oct. 23, 2018 in Checotah, Oklahoma. He was born Jan. 6, 1946 in Checotah to Alta (Hart) and Elmer Andrew Jones.
Jimmy attended Northeastern State University and received a Bachelors of Arts degree.
For over 40 years Jimmy owned and operated Jim’s Barber Shop in Checotah.
Jimmy joined the Army during Vietnam, was a former City Councilman, founder of Old Settler’s Day, Lions Club member, Jaycee’s member, Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree Mason, Post Commander of the American Legion and was on the Executive Committee of the State American Legion.
Jimmy and Lana were married for over 20 years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Jones; sister, Barbara Overmon; and mother-in-law, Hazel Kimmel.
He is survived by wife, Lana Jones; children, Stephanie (Jones) Wren and husband Andy of Checotah, step-son, Gary Jones; step-daughter, Kristi (Jones) Cowan and husband Michael of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Drew Wren, Courtney Wren, Chase Wren, Ella Wren, Graham Cowan; siblings, Odell Jones of Albuquerque, N.M. and Joel Jones and wife Linda of Cushing, Okla.
Viewing took place at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Visitation with the family occurred on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
A celebration of life for Jimmy Jones was held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Checotah with Darren Glover and Mark Vandiver officiating.
Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery with Paul Whitley, John Buckmaster, Jack McCullar, Dave Pruitt, Mike Garrett and Mark Phillips serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Paul Story, Tommy Combs and Max Bear.
Services were under the direction of Checotah Funeral and Cremation Services.
