Virginia Lee Tidwell
Virginia Lee Tidwell, Checotah resident, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 in Eufaula, Oklahoma at the age of 91. She was born on Saturday, March 10, 1928 to Ira and Inez (Conover) Shoemake in Po-rum, Oklahoma.
On Monday, Aug. 7, 1944, she married the love of her life, Bob Tidwell in Porum. Virginia was a homemaker who cooked three meals daily and a wonderful mother to five children.
She worked as a waitress for 20 years and later worked for Access Home Care II for eight years.
She was a prayer warrior who deeply loved her family.
For over 20 years she worked in the nursery at First Baptist Church.
Virginia was well known for her kind heart, never gossiped and was known to say: “If you couldn’t say anything good, don’t say it!” and “If you thought it three times, you have to say it!”
She was the most unselfish person who was loved by all who knew and loved her. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Tidwell; her brothers, Dick Shoemake and Rev. Bob Shoemake; her sisters, Wanda Ross and her husband Bill and Billie Bess Ritter; her son-in-law, Jim Rhodes; her grandson-in-law, Aaron Hicks and her brother-in-law, Frank Hill.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Jeanne and Duane Curtis of Checotah, Bobby and Billie Jean Tidwell of Checotah, Linda Rhodes of Muskogee, Rick and Sharon Tidwell of Checotah, and Cathy and Mike Bennett of Checotah.
Virginia is also survived by her grandchildren, Rick and Donna Curtis, Christie and Rick Griffin, Robby and Kristy Tidwell, Brent and Misti Tidwell, Rance Rhodes, Robin Hicks, Austin and Ryan Rhodes, Dustin and Jamie Tidwell, Laura and Brian Morphis, Brandie and Loren Brashier, T. J. and Jessica Tidwell, Mikey and Kelley Bennett, Jenni and Tim Campbell and Matt and Addi Bennett; 31 great- grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.
Virginia is also survived by her sister, Lillian Hill of Roanoke, Va.; her brother, Jerry Shoemake and his wife Jan of Po-rum; her brother-in-law, Bill Ritter of Midlothian, Texas as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and an amazing church family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Virginia’s memory to First Baptist Church Nursery Remodel Fund, 210 SW 2nd, Checotah, Okla. 74426.
Services celebrating the life of Virginia were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Dustin Tidwell and Reverend Steve Dennis officiating.
Private family interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.
Rick Curtis, Robby Tidwell, Brent Tidwell, Mikey Bennett, Matt Bennett, Austin Rhodes, T. J. Tidwell and Rance Rhodes will serve as Casket Bearers.
