Christian leads Junction City to Baseball Championship

The Junction City Brigade clinched the Cowdin Cup championship in the Mid Plains League for a second consecutive year.

It is the fourth time the Junction City Brigade won the Mid Plains League championship. The Brigade defeated the Midwest A’s 5-2 Saturday night in Belton, Missouri to win the league title.

Jack Christian pitched a complete nine-inning game for Junction City. He threw 142 pitches in the process.

Blaze Brothers went 3-4 at the plate with a double, home run, a single and a walk for the Brigade.

Head coach Dereck Francis described Christian as a competitor and workhorse. “ He got us to the 9th so it was his ballgame and we were going to win it with him or lose it with him, that’s kind of what it came down to. He did what he did for eight innings there in the 9th and got us here to the Promised Land.”

The Junction City Brigade’s had seven 2019 All-Star selections; Adam Becker(39), Blaze Brothers(25), George Specht(17), Tyler Halstead(19), Bryce Hestand(12), Jack Christian(16), and Zane Schmidt(11), (pictured to the left). JC Brigade’s head coach, Derek Francis, was also selected to coach the West All-Star team.
