Martin makes school history with state meet appearance
Oct. 2019 - Checotah senior Caden Martin placed 87th at the Class 4A OSSAA State Cross County Meet at Shawnee October 26..
“I believe that Caden is the first male athlete to compete in the state cross country meet for Checotah. Not sure but no one else can remember anyone else,” Checotah head coach Jim Glover said.
Lincoln Christian won the team event with a total time of 1:26:44 followed by Byng 1:28:44, Madill 1:29:01, Weatherford 1:29:24 and Holland Hall 1:30:08 to round out the top five teams.
Caden Goss of Fort Gibson won top individual with a time of 16:15:81 followed by Nate Gibson of Lincoln Christian 16:17:70 and Ike Walker of Holland Hall 16:45:35 to name the top three placers.
“I’m very proud of Caden. He put in the time and work effort to get here. He practiced hard and improved his time with each meet. This was a tough course against the best runners in the state and he did well. I’m just really proud of him,” Checotah head coach Jim Glover said.
Martin earned his way to the final meet after posting a time of 18:33:6 at the Class 4A Regional held at Kiefer High School Oct. 19.
