Wildcats claw way into Second Round of playoffs

The Class 3A No. 8 Checotah Wildcats are moving on to the second-round of the playoffs after jumping out early and played great defense to defeat Cascia Hall 36-22 on Friday night at Ray Grandstaff Stadium at Ogle Field. The last time Checotah was in the second round was in 2008 under then head coach Brandon Turley. The Wildcats jumped out to a 15-0 lead to start the second quarter as Jacob Barrett scored on a 43-yard run and a pass to Bailey McIntosh for a 23-yard touchdown. “I though our offensive line did a great job for us up front. It allowed Jacob to make his reads. That’s important for us. To be able to make those reads and get the ball down field is crucial for us. Cascia Hall did what they thought would win the game but our guys were focused and our staff was well prepared. I couldn’t do it without them. Winning this game is big for us and I’m so proud of this team and coaching staff,” Checotah head football coach Chad Hendricks said. Cascia Hall scored in the second quarter when Zachary Uhren caught a short pass from Jaxon Henderson to cut the score 15-7. Then the momentum swung toward the visiting team as they forced Checotah to punt. Several plays later Cascia Hall punches it in from short yardage then executes a perfect two-point conversion to tie the game 15-15. The Wildcats would bounce back as Barrett threw a laser to Trenton Dan for a 24-yard touchdown. Dan then ran in the end zone on a two-point conversion to go into the Halftime break with a 23-15 lead. The Wildcats stormed the field to start the second half as Barrett scored from short yardage to extend the lead 29-15. Senior receiver Brenden Dan showcased his speed as out ran several Cascia Hall defenders for a 76-yard touchdown pass. The Wildcats improve to 9-2 and will travel to Plainview next Friday, kickoff at 7pm.
