While many people are pounding the pavement every day to make a living, some local folks are making a living by paving the pavement. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) Field Division 1 Checotah Interstate Maintenance crew is under District Manager Engineer Jonathan Arps and a crew of 10 employees under the supervision of Sam Duvall. This crew has the never-ending task of maintaining the roads on Interstate 40 from mile marker 233-279, plus Hwy 150 (Fountainhead Road) and Hwy 75B out of Henryetta. That is 1,111.19 centerline miles with 694 bridges. These ten employees are responsible for maintaining this part of Oklahoma?s highway-based transportation infrastructure including the non toll interstate system, the U.S. highway system and the state highway system along with management of the stateowned railroads.
