Michael Buehrle was a plankowner on the USS Carr FFG-52 over 38 years ago; so it was special when he finally got to visit the Paul Carr Memorial Exhibit on May 23. He joined the naval crew of approximately 200 servicemen when he served on the USS Carr FFG-52 from the fall of 1984 through 1986. He was just an 18-year-old boy from Massachusetts, but he still remembers the story of the young man, Paul Henry Carr, who so valiantly fought in the Battle off Samar in Leyte Gulf and was killed October 25, 1944. It was a battle considered to be one of the largest naval battles in history with more than 1,130 American sailors killed, including Carr, and Buehrle felt honored to be on a naval vessel named after such a hero.
