DEMOCRACY WINS

Everything went democratic except the trustees from Fourth and Fifth wards which were elected by the Independents by a very small majority.

FOURKILLEDASTORNADORIPSTHROUGH COUNTY 34 Houses Demolished Thursday Night Four people were killed and damage estimated in excess of $100,000 was caused by the tornado which struck McIntosh county last Thursday night, sweeping down the North Canadian river valley toward the Arkansas line.

The fury of the winds hit the western part of the county about 9:30 o’clock last Thursday night, swooping down on the farm community of Lenna, 15 miles northwest of Eufaula, where three people were killed including Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Cox, young married couple, and the small child of Mr. and Mrs. Harding.

The path of destruction followed the river toward Eufaula, where Donald Shropshire Jr. was killed at the home of his parents, two miles east of Cathay.

About 10 homes were destroyed in and around Lenna and a number of people including Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Barrett and six children were injured. The entire Barrett family was taken to a Henryetta hospital.

Rentiesville Post Office Closes Doors

When Lula Mae Miller locked the door to the Rentiesville Post Office on March 31, it was both an occasion to celebrate and an occasion for sadness.

For Miller, who has been the postmaster at Rentiesville for the past 10 years, it should have been an occasion to celebrate as she was retiring.

On the other hand, it was also an occasion for sadness as the March 31 closing marks the end of 94 years of service by that post office to the community of Rentiesville.

The post office opened on May 11, 1904.
