2023-24 Checotah Wildcats Basketball Preview

Checotah Wildcats Boys Team

The Checotah Wildcats are a young team with one senior on the team, 6’5” Kamden Miller. They are a great perimeter shooting team and very athletic with guards Tyler Orman and Elijah Thomas. Both are great on both ends of the court. R.J. Womack has put in the work and is a complete player with great vision and the skill set to make key rebounds and shots in the paint.

“This season I expect us to bring high energy and intensity to every game. I believe we have a good opportunity to get out and shake some things up and make some noise this year. We’ve got a group that has worked hard to get prepared for the season, and will continue to work every day. I expect continued growth and improvement for the Wildcats throughout the season.

We have two athletes returning for their 3rd year of starting for varsity, Tyler Orman and Elijah Thomas, who will lead the way with their crafty scoring abilities and defensive efforts.

Aum Patel and Weston Brown will be great guards to add to the mix this year with their ability to shoot and handle the basketball. Dylan Robinson, RJ Womack, and Kamden Miller will be tough physical kids, who give great effort in rebounding and defending, as well as their abilities to play inside or out.

Other young athletes to be on the lookout for-Izayah Tayde, Hudson Pollard, Cooper Cutbirth. Each one of these guys are hard working and have the ability to provide good minutes for the Wildcats this season,” Checotah head coach Malcolm Warrior said.

Checotah Lady Wildcats

The Checotah Lady Wildcats return several key players in Hailey Prince, Aiyana Brewer, Nyah Cloud, Sidney Hamilton, Jazlyn Atkins, Ruby and Ruthy Folkner. A huge factor will be transfer student Shyanne Madewell and the play of several freshmen like Isabella Hensen, Logan Dowdy and others. In his second season at the helm, head coach Wes Cloud has done a fantastic job of putting a highly competitive team on the court. Brewer, Cloud and Prince are big time paint players while Madewell, Folkner and Hamilton can knock down shots from the perimeter.

“Excited about the upcoming season. The kids have worked so hard in the weight room and in the gym this off season. Most of their work was done in their own spare time. Several spent a lot of time playing AAU this summer getting ready for the upcoming season.

Others spent most their summer lifting and shooting in our facilities. Playing pick up boys girls who ever showed up.

They all have prepared themselves for an exciting season. We will have one of the deepest rotations of anyone we play. This year is a year of higher standards set by our girls’ work ethic.

We are all excited to get it started,” Checotah head coach Wes Cloud said.
