“A hot meal on Christmas Day to any soul that needs to be fed is still our mission,” Pastor Samuel Cunningham of Mt. Olive Star Baptist Church said.
Though the 15th Annual Feeding All Souls Christmas Dinner is free, it will be take-out only due to health precautions.
Feeding All Souls was the vision of Willie and Jacque Hopkins over 15 years ago and it hasn’t changed in all these years. It is simply a message of loving and feeding every soul every Christmas.
“It still takes a village to feed everyone every year but it’s nice to have people step up and volunteer to help deliver the meals.”
Mt. Olive Church members use the Multi-Purpose Building at the Checotah Intermediate School to prepare all the food that goes out. The spacious area provides plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable and be able to work together but get the work done.
“Volunteers help each year and definitely get back more than they could ever give. It is truly a blessing to feed souls physically and spiritually. That’s what we aim to do with a smile.”
Each year Cunningham and his church look forward to serving a Christmas meal to show the love of God to his neighbors and community.
The pastor and congregation believe if ever they needed to feed hungry souls and serve one another in the spirit of love, now is that time. So, every meal is free to anyone who needs a hot dinner. However, donations are always greatly appreciated and welcomed. The church also appreciates anyone who can drop off a dessert or two to help out.
Every year the church feeds around 400-500 souls but Cunningham is prepared to feed up to 700.
“We will start sending out meals by 11 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m. on Christmas Day. Our message is still a simple message of love and helping those in our community.”
