Bulldogs bite Wildcats in hoop action
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Muldrow Bulldogs swept Checotah Friday night at the Checotah Event Center. Muldrow used a third period offensive showing to top the Wildcats 60-43. It was an exciting contest from the opening tip as Checotah’s Elijah Thomas was paired up to Muldrow’s Teague Collins with Thomas getting the better of the two. Checotah used quick and fast movement to take a 15-11 first period lead.

The Bulldogs would battle back as Parker Sevenstar began to dominate the paint while scoring 14 points. Checotah head coach Malcolm Warrior put in Kamden Miller hoping to slow down Seventstar but failed. Muldrow hung on to a 27-26-halftime lead.

The third period was all Muldrow as they outscored the Wildcats 18-5. Checotah tried to bounce back with drives by Weston Brown and Tyler Orman but the Bulldogs held fast and outrebounded Checotah as Teague Collins scored 12 points. Kashan Bukhari was spot on, shooting from the perimeter to defeat Checotah 60-43.

Elijah Thomas led all players with 18 points and Ormam had 11 points.

In girls’ action, Muldrow defeated the Checotah Lady Wildcats 51-29. Muldrow used a full court press to stifle the Lady Wildcats. Turnovers and missed free throws played a role in the loss for Checotah. The Lady Bulldogs led 29-10 at the halftime break by outscoring Checotah 17-2 in the second period. A positive for Checotah was the play of some underclassmen as Bella Henson scored three points and Jazlyn Atkins played well on defense. The Folkner sisters of Ruthy and Ruby, were dynamic as they drove to the paint and scored in transition. Nyah Cloud scored six points but Checotah was led by Ruthy Folkner who scored 13 points.

On Tuesday, Checotah traveled to Roland. In the boys’ game, Roland edged Checotah 46-37. Roland used a first period lead of 21-8 to set the tone for the Rangers. Roland led 38-18 at the halftime break and the Wildcats could not recover from the large lead. Weston Brown scored six points and Elijah Thomas led Checotah with 12 points while Tyler Orman added five points in the loss. However Checotah had eight players score in the game.

The Lady Rangers topped Checotah 51-46 in a shootout. Checotah came to play and was focused. After trailing 12-9 at the end of the first period, Checotah battled back with great inside shooting and outrebounding Roland on the offensive end. Checotah outscored Roland 13-11 in the second period and trailed just 2520.

It was a battle to the end with Ruby Folkner leading the way for the Lady Wildcats. Folkner scored a game-high 16 points. But it wasn’t enough as Roland held off the tough Lady Wildcats 51-46. Nyah Cloud finished with 14 points and Ruthy Folkner added five points.
