The Spiro Bulldogs escaped Checotah with a 50-47 win on Friday night. It was homecoming for the Wildcats as Nyah Cloud was crowned Homecoming Queen and the boys team would take to the court first. The Wildcats’ defense was stout led by R.J. Womack and Hudson Pollard. It was two teams feeling each other out in the first period with the Bulldogs leading 9-7.
However, the Wildcats began to use their athleticism as Elijah Thomas and Tyler Orman used their quickness and speed to fly to the basket. The play in the paint by Checotah could not go unnoticed as Womack defended the goal and grabbed rebounds. Thomas and Pollards shots got hot as they tied the game 2121 athalftime.
The Bulldogs started off with three pointers and inside play to start the third period and outscored Checotah 13-7 but the Wildcats bounced back in the fourth period with a 19 point period but could not overcome the third period six point lead by Spiro as the Bulldogs held on for a 50-47 victory.
Pollard and Thomas each had 10 points, Womack and Weston Brown had six points and Orman added five-points.
