LOST MAN FOUND
Being appraised that a stranger had been hanging around one of Checotah’s cotton gins last week Chief of Police Erv Kelley picked up this man on the streets Friday and placed him in jail. The stranger had several lodge receipts in his pockets bearing the name of Ed Walden and though at times he talked very intelligently it could be seen that he was suffering with a form of insanity.
Following several long-distance calls Mr. Kelley located the man’s father E.K. Walden, at Mineral Springs, Ark., who informed him that he would come to Checotah immediately.
Walden stated that his son had been confined at the Arkansas State Insane Asylum and that on July 22, 1922, he managed to escape from the institution and from that date until the present time neither he nor the officials had ever been able to find any traces of the escaped patient and that he had practically given him up for dead.

Ice deliveries on the rural routes has been discontinued, commercial houses are allowed only a small part of their average needs and other customers receive only a maxium of 25 pounds, as local agents attempt to make the ice stretch as far as possible.
The explanation for the shortage lies in the fact that the Muskogee plants, where Checotah receives its supply, are furnishing Camp Gruber.

Deputy involved in wreck while pursuing kidnapping call Sunday evening, at approximately 6 p.m., the McIntosh County Sheriff ’s Department received a possible kidnapping call. While enroute to Central High, just west of Checotah, Sheriff ’s Deputy Orlando Crabtree came up behind a vehicle that was pulled off to the side of the road. The vehicle, apparently not seeing Crabtree’s unit, made a turn into a driveway and was struck by the county vehicle.
The deputy was treated and released at a local hospital. Condition of the female driver of the other vehicle was unknown at press time.
The initial call of possible kidnapping apparently stemmed from a father and mother arguing in front of the mother’s family and then the father left with the child. No charges were filed against the father.
