Ironheads edge Vian 4-3 in baseball action
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Ironheads (66, 4-4) needed a rally to defeat the Vian Wolverines on Friday and they got it. The Ironheads was down 3 to 2 in the top of the seventh inning when Connor McAllister smashed a pitch for a double, scoring a pair of runs for the victory.

Eufaula senior Draven Gragg connected on a pitch for a single, scoring a run prior to McAllister’s heroics.

JP Hicks earned the victory for Eufaula from the mound. Hicks gave up eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking three.

McAllister went l-of-4 with two RBIs, Jaxon Lange 2-for-3, Gragg 2-for-4 with an RBI, Hicks 2-for-4 and Hayden Robinson finished going l-for-4.

“I’m very proud of this team and the underclassmen. I thought that our team did a great job of keeping the ball in front of them and limiting errors. Hicks did a great job pitching today. He seems to improve with each trip to the mound. We just need to play consistently from this point forward,” Eufaula head coach Josh Luna said.

Monday’s game against Spiro was moved to Tuesday due to rain. The Ironheads had to travel to Spiro for a doubleheader against the Bulldogs. Eufaula split with Spiro with each team winning one game apiece.

Spiro topped Eufaula 2-1 in a low scoring matchup. The Bulldogs hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eight innings. Eufaula tied the game as Carson Luna singled on a full count in the sixth inning, The Lady Ironheads scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-2, helped by a tworun triple off the bat of Anderson. Makayla Harjo earned the win while Kate Pippenger and Emma Lovett both added three hits and Avery Williams and Rayleigh Peterson both finished with two. In its second game, Eufaula made short work of Roland, 11-1. The Lady Ironheads jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first two innings. Harjo took the win allowing six hits in four innings. Kambry Williams, Kadie Jo Tidwell and Peterson all collected three hits to lead Eufaula while Pippenger and Anderson were both 2-for-3. Pippenger had three RBIs.

“I’m very happy with the production at the plate but we have to continue to limit errors. I thought the team played well overall,” Eufaula head coach Ryan Green said.

Williams drove in four runs and collected three hits as the Lady Ironheads (6-4-1) fell to Stigler 7-6 in a great and close game. Eufaula took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third as Anderson, Tidwell and Williams all singled home runs. Stigler tied and then took the lead, 7-4 in the top of the fifth. Makayla Harjo took the loss as she allowed 16 hits in the game.
