Steer wrestling may have originated in the 1890s with an African-American cowboy named Bill Pickett from Texas, but it was Roy Duvall who had a record 24 National Finals Rodeo qualifications and three World Championships that put a little town in Oklahoma on the map. Checotah, dubbed the “Steer Wrestling Capital of the World ‘’ is still the hometown and training ground for six World Champions, including Duvall and the 45th Annual Duvall Steer Wrestling Jackpot is just around the corner.

The Duvall Steer Wrestling Jackpot starts on Friday, May 17 at noon and goes until 5 p.m. with the Champions of Champions and a buckle to average and fast-time winner with a minimum $2,000 added.

Saturday, May 18 it’s the 40 & Over with a buckle to winner and 50 & Over. Also Saturday is the 19 & Under with a minimum $2,000 added and a buckle to the AVG winner, fast time, and 16 & Under Champion. All entries close after the 1st round of 40 & Over with a CSC scholarship to the winner. There will also be a Battle Royal Tournament with a limited 10 – $1,000 entries and the winner takes all.

On Sunday, May 19 will be the Open Shootout with a minimum $2,000 added and a buckle to the AVG winner and fast time. Cowboy Church with Mike Bush will be at 10 a.m. prior to the Shootout which runs from noon until 5 p.m.

Steer wrestling fans from far and wide will fill the Checotah Round-Up Club arena to see some of the best steer wrestlers in the world compete and everyone can be expected to enjoy the wonderful family atmosphere that the Duval Dynasty always brings to their fans and friends with some friendly competition. Admission is $3 each day.
