Cheyanne Spindle-Barlow, a 2024 graduate of Checotah High School, was selected to receive a $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the International P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was recommended by Chapter BX in Checotah, Oklahoma. The local chapter also awarded her a scholarship for $1,500 bringing the total to $4,000. Cheyanne is the fifth winner from Chapter BX.
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional women in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the U.S. or Canada the next academic year. The competitive scholarship is for women who exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and hold the potential for future success.
Cheyanne is the daughter of Travis Barlow and Kristi Spindle-Barlow. She has been in band since seventh grade and has been a member of the awardwinning Class of Checotah throughout high school. She has been the drum major for the past two years. Cheyanne has also been a trainer for the Wildcat football team.
Her plans are to attend Northern Virginia Community College this fall.

Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 125,000 women pursue educational goals by providing approximately $432 million in grants, scholarships, awards and loans.
