Shawnee man wins $9,317 in LEA Poker Run
By JERRY FINK MANAGING EDITOR

Winners in the annual Lake Eufaula Association’s Golden Eagle Poker Run went home with a total of more than $40,000 in cash prizes Saturday.

LEA Executive Director Rhonda Adams said 242 competitors entered the event.

The biggest winner was Brian Butler of Shawnee who walked away with a $9,317 first place check. His winning hand was 4-of-akind Jacks.

“There was a little unexpected rain and lightning, but that didn’t affect the turnout,” Adams said.

The rain probably cooled things down a bit, as the temperature was close to 100 degrees.

Other winners in the Poker Run were: – 2nd Place, Jean Osborn, Oklahoma City, $4,658.50 – 3rd Place, Steve Hockert, Norman, $2,964.50 – 4th Place, Robert McAtee, Edmond, $1,694 – 5th Place, Darla Lott, McAlester, $847 The costume contest, this year sponsored by Hull’s Boat Lift and Docks, is always a fun competition. This year’s theme was The Roaring ‘20s.

John Holland’s party captured first place and went away with $500.

Glenn Blumstein came in second and won $200, but that was small potatoes compared to his win of $2,075 in the 50/50 event.

Mystery cash totaling $2,500 went to 25 lucky participants. The event was sponsored by Bee Well Family Health Care, Bank of Eufaula, First Family Federal Credit Union and Jason Burns.

Sponsors of the Poker Run included Nine Marina, Dobbers Restaurant, Sam Wampers Freedom Ford of McAlester and Eufaula, OK Shirt Co., Bee Well Family Health Care, Bank of Eufaula, First Family Federal Credit Union and Jason Burns.

Marinas participating in the Run were Fountainhead, Belle Starr, Evergreen, Nine Marina and Extreme and Sammy’s Surf Shop.

The next big event for the LEA will be its annual golf tournament in October.

A new event folks can participate in now is Lake Eufaula-opoly, a Monopoly based game. The buy-in is $40.

In this limited-edition board game, you buy, sell and trade your way around Lake Eufaula.

Cards and details about the game are available at the Lake Eufaula Association office, 851 N. Main st., Eufaula.
