MANAGING EDITOR JERRY FINK

Can’t get enough Fourth of July fireworks? No problem.

This year McIntosh County will feature half a dozen celebrations at communities across the county.

The week-long party begins on Friday, June 28 in Stidham, hosted by the Stidham Church and Vivian Rural Fire Department. Fireworks begin at dusk.

Then on Saturday, June 29, the Hanna Rural Fire Association will put on a fireworks display at the high school. The events begin at 7 p.m. Free food will be served. Bring lawn chairs and bug spray.

Porum Landing also will feature a fireworks show on June 29, preceded by a golf cart parade. The parade and show are hosted by Finn’s Fireworks.

CHECOTAH

The City of Checotah will host their Freedom Celebration on July 4 that begins with a 5K run at 7 a.m., pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. and ends with fireworks at 9:45 p.m.

In between there will be a cornhole tournament, home run derby, fishing derby, boat races and hole-in-one golf contest.

There will also be a tractor-pull for those 12 and under; power wheels for 12 and under, a blindfold lawnmower race and a wheelbarrow race.

There will be a fun zone for kids throughout the day and live music starting at 8 p.m. with Shiloh and Going For Broke.

Billed as the 1st Annual Freedom Fest 5k, activities will take place at the Checotah Sports Complex all day.

Vendors should sign up at City Hall.

Registration for the run will open at 6 a.m. at the Pavilion on the north side of the complex.

Pr e – re g i s t r at i on Fees: $20 for the Fun Run, $25 for the 5k (race day registration $5 more).

EUFAULA

Eufaula’s fireworks show, hosted by the City of Eufaula, will be Friday, July 5, at dusk. The pyrotechnics will take place at Nichols Point and will be visible from most locations around the cove.

On Saturday, July 6, the 5th annual Golf Cart/SXS 4th of July Parade will be held at 6 p.m. Paraders should meet at the Eufaula Armory under the big tree at 5:30 p.m.

Any and all golf carts, ATVs, SNS and Razors are welcome.

LONGTOWN/CARLTON LANDING/XTREME Longtown No. 9 Fire Department also will host a fireworks display on Saturday, July 6, at dusk.

Also on July 6, Lake Eufaula Cove at Xtreme Resorts will have a display.

And the Freedom Festival at Carlton Landing will be held on July 6 at 8 p.m. on the festival lawn.
