Candidate for Governor Addresses Large Crowd Bill Murray, better known as “Alfalfa Bill” democratic candidate for governor, made good his appointment here Tuesday night and was greeted by the capacity of Tuckabatchee hall. Murray is the same today, tomorrow and next week and when it comes to making an extemporaneous speech has few peers in the realm.
An Old Fashioned Picnic
A real old-fashioned picnic has been arranged for Carr Creek July 26 and with anything like favorable weather will prove the event of the season.
Baseball, bronco riding and other amusements will ensure everybody has a good time.
An opportunity will be afforded during the day for candidates to make their announcements.

Former Checotah Boys Making Good in Business World
The following taken from the Okemah News will be read with interest by Checotah people: Forrest Parrott, owner of the Parrott Motor company of Okemah, and E.M. Hill, of Checotah, have just closed a deal whereby they are now in charge of the Deignan Motor company of Oklahoma City.
Meeting of McIntosh County Medical Society The McIntosh County Medical Society met in regular monthly session Tuesday afternoon in the Masonic hall with President Mobley presiding.
Lions Enjoy Luncheon
Members of the Eufaula Lions club were the invited guests of the Checotah club at a noon luncheon Wednesday at the Gentry hotel.
About 50 guests were present and close to 100 Lions surrounded the tables loaded down with good things to eat prepared by the ladies of the Baptist church.

Draft Status Changes Made by War Board Draft registrants, who were classified 3A in 1940 and 1941, may find their status changed within the next few weeks, unless proper action is taken, Hugh Miller, member of the county draft board, announced Thursday. The board is rapidly reclassifying many names in the old 3A file, and much of the information on the registration blanks is out of date or completely lacking, especially mention of the registrants’ farming activities, Miller said.
FBI Makes Appeal For Women Clerks
A corps of women to hold positions as clerks in Washington are desperately needed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to William L. Buchannan, special agent of Muskogee.
Women between the ages of 18 and 40 who are high school graduates and have good character and health are eligible for the jobs which pay a salary of $1,752 per year.

Fireworks Ban To Be Enforced

Lake Ministry Presents Unique Music Program Mayor R.J. Koch and members of the city council wared this week that the sale and shooting of fireworks in the city limits is strictly forbidden under city ordinances and that violators will be punished.
Sales were made last year by a store outside the city limits and a number of youngsters were caught firing the missiles in the business district.
Three unique programs will be presented during the Fourth of July weekend for all are residents and vacationers at Fountainhead Lodge and Arrowhead Lodge. These inspiring presentations of the Gospel through vocal and instrumental music are sponsored by the Lake Eufaula United Ministry.
1949 Reunion
The 25th Reunion for the class of 1949 will be held at the Baptist Church fellowship hall July 5, 1974, at 7:30 p.m.
Any member of this class and husbands or wives are invited to attend.

Construction company discusses new jail with county commissioners South Build, a construction and planning company that specializes in rural county jail, made a presentation to the McIntosh County Commissioners Monday during their regularly scheduled meeting Mike Kelley and James Langford explained to commissioners and sheriff ’s department employees that their company specialized in these country jails. They said they hold a 100 percent track record in sticking to county budgets in order to build these jails.
McIntosh County ninth highest unemployment rate in the state
McIntosh County has the ninth highest unemployment ranking out of 77 counties statewide, this according to statistics released by the Oklahoma Labor Market.
Only eight counties have a higher percentage of their citizens out of work: Okfuskee, Col, Seminole, Hughes, McCurtain, Caddo, Okmulgee and Muskogee Counties.
All are in Eastern Oklahoma.

Carol Lindley will treasure retirement
But for helping her father bale hay during the summers and working in the cafeteria during her junior and senior high school years, Carol Lindley has never worked anywhere other than the McIntosh County Treasurer’s Office.
On July 1, that job will come to an end. She spent nine years, four months as a deputy treasurer before being appointed treasurer in December, 1991, a position she has held for 22 years, seven months.
