Indian community goes whole hawg on Whole Hawg Day
By JON TIGER,

The Eufaula Indian Community will host Whole Hawg Day events at their facility at 800 Birkes Rd.

The public is invited to this free-of-charge event, which will start with an indoor arts and crafts show.

The show will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., with various artists showing and selling their handmade items.

Among the artists will be Bill McCulley, displaying his rock paintings; Barney Leader, and his jewelry; Scotty Harjo and his flutes; Emma Wilson, with her New Mexico pottery and also Jackie Jackson and her t-shirts.

Coordinator Jon Tiger will display some of his awardwinning pieces.

For the children and adults, face painting by Katherine Harjo will be available.

Many other vendors also will be in attendance with beadwork, jewelry and more.

Proceeds from this show will go towards repairing April storm damage to the historic West Eufaula Indian Baptist Church, located west of Eufaula.

An Indian Taco Sale will be held at the Edna Belcher Nutrition Center next to the Indian community center from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. This will be a church fundraiser to attend the annual Falls Creek Camp located near Turner Falls.

An invitation-only chair volleyball tournament, with players 55 and older, will begin a double elimination tournament. The object of the game is to control a beach ball while sitting in a chair. Six players per team must sit and cannot raise or stand out of the chair, while they are in play. Each game will go to 15 points per game and a team must win by two points if the score is tied.

Teams invited to this tournament are Cromwell, Okemah, Wetumka, Holdenville, Wilburton, and Stigler Choctaws, and two Eufaula teams. These teams will compete for first, second and third place trophies. A Sportsmanship Trophy will be given in remembrance of the late Johnny Scott, a player for Eufaula.

The public is invited out to this event, which is free of charge and located in an air-conditioned facility.

A concession will be open to serve snacks such as pickles, popcorn, nachos and more.

The EIC Elder group will be selling cold pop and water.

For more information, contact Jon Tiger at 918-850-3806.
