The Checotah Wildcats Cross Country team traveled to Poteau to compete in the Carl Albert Cross Country meet. The competition was vast and the course demanding. When the dust had settled Checotah’s twin sisters Ruby and Ruthie Folkner finished in the top10 out of over 50 participants.

Alessia Osterhout of Poteau won top individual with a time of 13:52.67 with Mia McElwee of Jay second with 14:11.95 and Poteau’s Savannah Chavez placed third 14:33.28.

Ruby Folkner placed 7th with 14:57.40 and Ruthie Folkner finished 9th 14:59.32.

Logan Dowdy 43, Alanah Madding 44 and Rachel Stauffer placed 45.

The Lady Wildcats finished seventh overall as a team. Poteau placed first followed by Jay, Heavener, Muldrow, Roland, Idabel, Checotah, Spiro and Cameron.

In the boys’ meet Seth Lynch of Heavener placed first in a group of 86 athletes, with a time of 18:26.97, Diego Cruz of Heavener was second 19:05.97 and Landon Killer of Roland rounded out the top three with a time of 19:12.00.

Checotah’s Izayah Tayde led the Wildcats with a time of 20:32.14 and placed 11th.

Heavener won the event as a team followed by Jay, Poteau, Idabel, Checotah, Muldrow and Spiro.

“I’m extremely proud of this team. Ruby and Ruthie continue to improve their time with each competition. I thought both teams gave it their best. The boys finished 5th overall and that’s great considering this course and the athletes they were running against. It’s a great day for the Wildcats,” Checotah head coach Jason Dowdy said.
