Par for the course, Lions host successful golf scramble
By LADONNA RHODES STAFF WRITER

The Checotah Lions Club hosted a successful 6th Annual Lions Golf Scramble at Arrowhead State Golf Course on Friday the 13th. It was a beautiful day to catch a “birdie” on the green to help raise funds for the Skeet Frame Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The winning team was Arvest Bank, shooting a 49. Second place went to Bulldog Spray Foam, who shot a 55.

Cubby Escalante won closest to the pin and the long drive was Derek Jacobs.

Ty Marrel won the poker hand with a full house, while Jake Hollingshed won the ball drop.

“We had a great day on the course with friends and fellow Lions who made up 11 teams competing for the first-place grand prize,” Lion Darren Armstrong said. “We were grateful to get nine Corporate Sponsors this year, which included ServPro of Muskogee/ McIntosh Counties & Tahlequah, Arvest Bank, Armstrong Bank, Peoples National Bank of Checotah, Sharpe’s Department Store, BK Glover DVM, Mike Voss DVM, Gentry Tire and Mama Tigs Wood Fired Pizza along with 18 hole sponsors.

“A huge ‘thank you’ to our meal sponsors Watson’s Meat Market who made some delicious steak subs, June’s Chicken who donated chips, and Checotah Perk who served drinks and donuts early in the morning to get golfers ready for the 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The Lions Club would also like to thank ServPro for the support and goodies given to the golfers while there on the course. Every year we appreciate the support of local businesses and individuals who make this scramble possible.”

The Checotah Lions Club was able to raise close to $3,500 which goes towards their scholarship fund for area high school seniors each year.
