Bulldogs edge Ironheads in double-overtime
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

For the second week in a row, officiating plays a part in the demise of the Eufaula Ironheads as they fall to the Muldrow Bulldogs 42-41 in double overtime. The Ironheads (13) rallied from a 15-7 halftime deficit to tie the game at 28-28 at the end of regulation. Eufaula battled back to tie the game 35-35 at the end of the first overtime period. In the second overtime period, Eufaula scored first on a short-yardage run by quarterback Ledger Folsom to put the Ironheads up by six points. However, on the PAT attempt a Muldrow defender jumped before the snap, blocked Brian Lynns PAT attempt and the officials did not throw the flag. Muldrow would then drive and score and kick their PAT for the 42-41 Class 3A-3 district opener.

The defense of effort for the Ironheads was impressive as the physicality of Bryan Lynn, Aaron Spoehr and Blayden Neill among others led the charge for Eufaula while the execution of Folsom and Peter Lee led the charge offensively. Eufaula’s offensive line continues to shine as Connor McAllister, Carson Luna and Brandon Bratton protect Folsom.

Eufaula came out the second half focused on winning the game.

Eufaula finished with 274 total yards of offense while Muldrow had 376. Folsom was 6/11 for 67 yards. Eufaula ran the football 34 times for 217 yards. Penalties continue to hurt Eufaula as they committed 11 for 80 yards while the Bulldogs just had three for 15 yards.

It was a game of big plays by both teams as Muldrow had scores from 71 and 24 yards while Eufaula’s Lee and Folsom scored on plays of 75, 46, 44, and 27 yards.

“It was a tough loss, we still have a lot of work to do. We have to be more disciplined on our type of penalties. We can’t just give other teams free yards. I am proud of how we fought back and got ahead after trailing the whole game. We just have to learn how to finish,” Eufaula head coach Larry Newton said.
