FIRE AT GIN
A bad fire was only averted at the independent gin Monday about noon by the prompt action of both the fire department and the employees at the plant.
The fire boys set a new record for prompt response for the wildcat had hardly ceased its screech when they were coupled to the plug and ready for action.
The blaze was discovered in the warehouse adjoining the gin on the north and more than likely was the result of carelessness on the part of the driver who had dropped a match in the load, or possibly some person had dropped it while loading.
Double Affliction
One night recently after having removed her shoes Mrs. J.A. Wicker had occasion to go into an adjoining room when she stepped on a needle in a rug, the sharp instrument penetrating the foot and snapping off. A pair of tweezers was required to remove the part imbedded in the flesh, but no serious results are anticipated.
The following morning the little son was operating the sewing machine when a finger was caught under the needle foot and before it was stopped the needle had passed through both finger and nail. The little fellow suffered considerable for a time and more than likely will never again try to run a sewing machine.

Eufaula Dam in the spotlight; 50th anniversary celebration
When President Lyndon Baines Johnson arrived at the newly constructed Lake Eufaula Dam on Sept. 25, 1964, to praise the project to the world, some 30,000 folks turned out for the event.
The 50th anniversary of the event on Sept. 25, 2014, won’t draw a crowd that large, but what it lacks in size may be made up for in enthusiasm.
