Ironheads sweep rival Checotah
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Ironheads defeated incounty rival Checotah Wildcats 46-19 Tuesday night at Checotah. It was a battle of the big men as Dacen Hunter of Eufaula battled Rowan Chapman and R.J. Womack of Checotah for supremacy in the paint. The Wildcats were plagued with turnovers as they accounted for three in the first period and failed to make open shots but outscored Eufaula 6-4.

The Ironheads turned on the juice in the second period as Ty Sparks began to rain down three-point buckets while Hunter, Keaton Parish and Maddox Bridges forced steals and grabbed rebounds.

Checotah senior Tyler Orman struggled against the Eufaula defense as he was held to just two total points. Eufaula outscored Checotah 11-5 in the second period to take a 15 -11 lead into the halftime break.

Eufaula continued its offensive juggernaut as they went on a 15-3 run, outscoring Checotah 194. Eufaula head coach Rob McKinzie saw his team rebound and force turnovers against the Wildcats. Dacen Hunter, Parish and Bridges did a great job of putting pressure on the Wildcats. Eufaula hit four three-point shots in the third period alone to take a 34-15 lead.

Keaton Parish had the hot hand for Eufaula as he scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth period while holding Checotah to just four points.

Eufaula went on to out score Checotah 12-4 in the final period to win 46-19.

Keaton Parish led Eufaula with 20 points, Ty Sparks 12 points and Jentry James added five points.

Rowan Chapman led Checotah with five points, Cooper Cutbirth three points and Cole Rolland, Wes Brown, Tyler Orman and Camden Ferguson finished with two points each.
