Stidham Redhawks fly to Championship

The Stidham Redhawks 7 & 8 boys basketball team brought home another ORES State Championship on Saturday, February 15. This team, composed of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, won their way to victory defeating the Fanshawe Grizzlies in the finals of the ORES Division IV championship game.

The Redhawks had a 29-point margin of victory throughout the three games in the state tournament.

The Stidham Redhawks end the season with a record of 19-2 and a Gold State Championship Ball.

The Redhawks are coached by Dane Yandell and Trett Yandell. This is head coach Dane Yandell’s 5th State Championship as Coach of the Stidham Redhawks and Trett Yandell’s second State Championship. It also adds to the impressive trophy cabinet representing nine state cham- pionships for the Redhawks since 2012.

Coach Yandell stated, “It takes hard work to bring home hardware. These kids put in the time and hard work and it shows on the court.”

The Stidham Redhawks also had three individuals named to the ORES All-Tournament team: Tandon Yandell, Elijah Jones, and the MVP of the tournament, Ryley Thompson.

The Stidham Lady Redhawks also had an impressive season, making it into the ORES State Tournament. Unfortunately, they were defeated in the semifinals against the Kenwood Indians, who ended up winning the State Championship. They ended the season with a record of 16-4. They also had two individuals named to the All-Tournament team, Allie Patterson and Ashtyn Harjo.
