Without Dairy Service

Matters in the dairy business have been somewhat complicated for several days past and patrons who have set out empties in the hope of securing filled bottles have been disappointed, and as to how long such a state of affairs will exist cannot be told.

FARMERS WERE DUPED IN SALE OF MEXICAN LAND

55 McIntosh County Citizens Reached Laredo Before Deception discovered For several months a man by the name of Johnson has been in Checotah organizing a “colony” of our farmers to go to Old Mexico.

Last Sunday at noon the delegation of 55 men, women and children left for the town of “Edenville,” the picture of their dreams.

We will let the Associated Press tell the remainder of the story in the following dispatch from San Antonio, Texas: Fifty-five men, women and children, who sold their homes near Checotah to purchase land in Mexico, only to find that they had been defrauded, disbanded in San Antonio tonight.

They came here from Laredo, where they discovered they possessed no land which they believed they had purchased.

The party intended to colonize land in the southern part of the state of Vera Cruz for which they paid $2 an acre. Several carloads of mules, cows, hogs and chickens were taken with the colonists. Their stock cars were stopped in San Antonio.
