GOES TO EUFAULA
The highest tribunal in Oklahoma on Tuesday with bared heads, and possibly a halo above them, handed down a decision naming Eufaula as the county seat of McIntosh county, and thus ends he battle.
SPREADING OUT
Another indication that Checotah is growing by rapid strides is the fact that the Checotah Water, Light and Ice company is inadequate to supply the needs of the city for both ice and power and it is only by working overtime that the orders for ice cream and soda pop can be filled.

CITY IMPROVEMENTS
According to an announcement made by the Dougherty-Nichols Construction Co., who have the contract for the resurfacing of Checotah’s pavement, several carloads of brick are now in transit to the city and the work of laying same will begin in real earnest the first of next week.
This announcement will be received with real pleasure by Checotah citizens and especially the businessmen and those who reside on the streets to be resurfaced.
Crop Conditions Excellent
Crop conditions in McIntosh county were probably never better than they are at this time this year. Crops of all descriptions in Oklahoma were advanced normally on April 15, the semi-monthly crop report released Monday by Carl H. Robinson, federal crop statistician.
Tourist Park in Fine Shape
During the past few weeks employees of the Checotah Service Station on east Gentry have been busily engaged in adding improvements and otherwise putting their Free Tourist Park in “apple pie” shape, and now Checotah can truthfully boast of one of the most compete and up to date parks in eastern Oklahoma.
The park will accommodate 50 cars and is clean and attractive.
Electric lights have been place throughout the park for the convenience of the tourists.
The park also contains shower baths, cooking house with free gas stoves and in case the tourist does not want to erect his tent he can rent a wellequipped cottage at a nominal fee.

Egg Prices Show Sharp Advances
Retail prices of creamery produce in Oklahoma City grocery stores have fluctuated during the past week, a check of merchants’ price lists reveal Tuesday with fresh and storage eggs taking a sharp rise in price while butter has shown a less decided drop in value.
Truck Growers Plan Meetings
The Checotah Truck Growers Association will hold a meeting on Friday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Court Room Building in Checotah to decide on the acreage to be planted. All interest in Truck growing should attend the meeting.

The cotton acreage reduction program as sponsored by the secretary of agriculture is passing into a stage where the farmers are demanding to know what they are going to do with their retired acres and how many acres they are going to plant, H.L. Bankhead, county agent, stated.

Truscott Named Army Commander
Maj. Gen. Lucian K. Truscott, former McIntosh county school teacher, has been appointed commander of the 5th Army in Italy, succeeding Mark W. Clark, who was recently elevated to a new position in the Mediterranean theater.
Truscott was the first man to enlist from this county in the last world war. He was serving with the allied forces in France at the time of his promotion
Red Cross Presents Gifts to Soldiers
Fifty gift packages for service men who will be on the high seas at Christmas time, were shipped by the Checotah chapter of the Red Cross last week under the direction of Mrs. B.H. Tabor, special chairman who supervised the collecting and packing of the gifts.
Each package contained: a book, cigarettes, soap, pencil and pad, camphor ice and handkerchief. The packages were wrapped with attractive Christmas paper furnished by Ann Vandiver.
Rant Herron Buys Grocery at Onapa
R.W. Herron, local livestock dealer, purchased the Marion Williams grocery store at Onapa this week and has taken over the management of the property.
Williams, who has operated the store for the past 14 years, plans to farm in the Brush Hill community.

Syrup Stockholders Reorganize Plant
The Checotah sorghum mill, built by local stockholders three years ago, will be operated this season under the direction of S.N. West of this city.
A reorganization meeting was recently held in the office of Milam King, attorney for the mill owners.
Eufaula Football Player Is Killed
Earl McCarson, Eufaula football player, was killed and three companions suffered minor injuries Sunday afternoon when the jeep in which they were riding overturned on State Highway 9 about seven miles west of Eufaula.
McCarson was a junior at Eufaula High school and a member of the national guard unit. Those injured were Colonel Stipes, Clyde Williams and Herbert Henley, all of Hanna.
McCarson was driving the others boys to Hanna in the National Guard jeep at the time of the accident. The jeep is said to have gone out of control when a tire blew out.

Adamek resigns; Gov’t changes debated Checotah Vice-Mayor Jim Adamek submitted his letter of resignation to Mayor Jay Hayes last week, citing “inactivity in City Hall.”
The letter, obtained upon request by The Democrat, goes so far as to name specific city officials that Adamek felt weren’t doing their job: he also praised those he felt were performing well.
Lest we forget: 9/11 parade planned
Lest we forget, a parade in remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorists attacked America, will be held on Sept.11, 2006, in Checotah.
The parade with military vehicles, emergency vehicles, and the Checotah High School Band and Quartet will include presentations of the National Anthem, prayer, rifle squad, Color Guard, Taps and a fly-over.

Rain, rain won’t go away
In the days ahead, more rain is expected in Mc-Intosh County and also in areas outside the county that will impact the water levels of Lake Eufaula.
Wesley Dawson, McIntosh County Emergency Management Director, said rain is predicted Tuesday, Wednesday and Memorial Day weekend.
The total predicted amount is in the neighborhood of three to five inches.
Corps dramatically increase amount of water being released
The Corps of Engineers on Monday began released 62,499 cubic feet of water per second through the Eufaula Dam, increasing the flow from 48,999 cfs.
“All 11 gates will be opened at four feet – and we will be running water through the hydropower plant as well,” Sara Goodeyon, public affairs specialist with the Tulsa District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, said.
As of 5 a.m. Tuesday, the lake level had dropped to 598.45 from a level of 598.60 at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
The flood stage of the lake is 595 feet.
In 1990, according to Corps Project Manager Jeff Knack, the lake reached a level of 599.89 feet and water was released at the rate of 235 000 cfs.
“The gates were opened 18 feet at that time,” Knack said.
The gates can be opened a maximum of 30 feet.
