Muskogee – Every child in foster care deserves someone in their corner. This summer, you can be that someone. CASA for Children is offering a new volunteer training class beginning this July. The training is open to community members who are ready to stand up for children in foster care and make a lasting difference.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers are everyday citizens who are sworn in as officers of the court and advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Volunteers are trained to work alongside attorneys, caseworkers, and judges to ensure each child’s voice is heard and their needs are met, both inside and outside of the courtroom.

The pre-service training program will be held over four weekly training sessions in July and prepares volunteers with the information and tools they need to become effective advocates.

CASA volunteers maintain regular contact with the children on their case, gather information, and provide recommendations directly to the court that are child-centered and best-interestdriven. “CASA volunteers are champions for children,” said Suzanne Hughes, Executive Director. “They are consistent, caring adults who help ensure each child’s path leads to safety, permanency, and hope.”

CASA has a desperate need for additional volunteers throughout the four-county area served by the program. Say yes to making a difference this summer. Say yes to becoming a CASA volunteer.
