A juvenile driving a stolen 2020 white Jeep Compass led lawmen on a chase that exceeded 110 miles per hour on U.S. 69 shortly after midnight on Friday, June 20.
After the Eufaula Police Department was notified by Muskogee police that the pursuit was headed south on U.S. 69 toward Eufaula, Police Chief David Bryning said exits into town were blocked to keep the suspect from entering the city and endangering citizens.
Eufaula Police Lt. Tyler Lewis slowed the suspect down by deploying a spike strip in front of the vehicle, disabling the two front tires.
According to Bryning the Oklahoma Highway Patrol then used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) method to stop the vehicle, which was driven by the minor.
Bryning said the juvenile, who was uninjured, was a Native American. After he was detained, Lighthorse law enforcement was contacted.
The name and age of the suspect were not released.
Bryning said the Jeep reportedly was stolen in Sallisaw on June 16, between 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m.
