City of Checotah Departmental Reports for July 14 meeting

CIDA – Report given by Ernie Moore. The CIDA is moving forward with the South Industrial Tract; easements were sent to Cimarron Valley Engineering. The CIDA would like to receive input from the Council, Planning and Zoning and Board of Adjustments on the 5-year plan. CIDA is considering doing another SWOT analysis.

Planning and Zoning/Board of Adjustments – Report given by Mark McCullough. Looking forward to the comprehensive plan. No objections to the rezoning that is listed on the agenda.

Chamber – Report given by Vice President, Chris Brown. Old Settlers Day completed, Chamber is moving towards a Fall Festival at this time. Hoping to have a car show and vendors. The Chamber is without a secretary at this time and all calls are being forwarded to Chris Brown’s phone.

EMS – No report given.

Fire – Mayor Tarkington notified council that Fire Chief Greg Carmack has taken the Fire Chief position at Eufaula Fire Dept. Austin Crowder will be the new Chief at Checotah. The volunteers with the department were in agreement with this transition.

Police – Report given by Marvin Harrell. Last month there were four jailed, three bonded out totaling $1265.00. Took 23 reports, issued 63 tickets, worked nine accidents and logged 1062 calls for service.

Maintenance – Report given by Asst. Director, James Curtis. Continuing to work on potholes, drainage ditches, installing tin horns and picking up limbs.

Emergency Management – Mayor Tarkington advised council that Marcus Cunningham gave his notice. There was a meeting last Friday concerning the 911 center and Mayor Tarkington will be overseeing the transition on getting the projects and 911 center taken care of.

Ordinance – Report given by Code Enforcer, Adam Arden. He began by thanking maintenance and water dept. for all their help with everything. He issued nine violations for tall grass and had nine building permits purchased, seven were home remodels. He mentioned the three buildings on the agenda for demolition. Wrote two certificates of occupancy, one for the corner building downtown and one for Robertson Tire, formerly Gentry Tire.

City Projects – Mayor Tarkington mentioned that Mark Martin has the blueprints of the 911 Center and shared the information with Williams Construction. Councilman Mike Key had asked how the building was storm rated. Mayor Tarkington advised only 1/3 of the building is storm rated. Some changes were made to the design to add future growth and to add storm rated windows with automated shades to operate. Also, mentioned how well the 4th of July went and had a great turnout.

Recreation – Report was given by Director, Chris Brown. Millings worked out well for the food trailers and vendors. Basketball goals are up and needing to do the striping on the courts and still waiting on the fencing for the basketball and pickleball courts. Finishing the project with the soccer fields and concession. The Rec. barn is near completion. Little football signups are starting.

Water/Wastewater – Report given by Utilities Director, Jeremy Jones, said 164 work orders were completed. Water made was 25,211,342 gallons, 20,874,600 gallons were sold, lost 4,336,742 and revenue was $133,356. There were several large water breaks that affected the water totals last month. Dustin Howell gave an update on the clear well project at the water plant. The 8-inch water line on Mc-Intosh is near completion. Waiting on testing and then will do tie-ins.
