Jim Lucas Library News
By HEATH ALLEN

When summer ends, and the children return to school, the library breathes a quiet sigh of relief -for a moment, anyways. Then it’s back to work! Come and see how we are shaking things up at the Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library.

We have a new librarian in town, Cristin Arnett. She transferred over from the Hulbert Community Public Library. Cristin is passionate about library work and excited to get involved in the local community through outreach programs. Be sure to stop and give her a warm welcome next time you come into the library or see us librarians out in the wild.

Our very own Rene Rula has stepped into the role of library assistant, and she is going to be leading the development of our children’s programming at the library. If you’ve been to our Storytime Tuesdays, you’ve likely already seen her excellent work with our young patrons.

Everyone’s favorite branch manager, Kenny Matthews, is now overseeing both of our library branches in McIntosh County: Checotah and Eufaula. Managing two branches is a lot of work, so yours truly will be assisting in these efforts in a new role as library coordinator at the Eufaula Memorial Library.

Now here is where things get interesting. September is Library Card Sign-Up month, and last year we held a competition between Checotah and Eufaula to see who could secure the most new sign-ups during the month.

This year, we are raising the stakes: the loser gets a pie in the face!

That’s right, at the end of September, after the totals are counted, either Kenny or I will earn the privilege of smacking the other in the face with a pie. It’s going to be brutal and recorded to be posted on Facebook, of course. People of McIntosh County, you have a very important decision to make in September.

Learn more about our services, events, and programs at the Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library at eols. org/checotah or follow us on Facebook.

Heath Allen is the library coordinator for the Eufaula Memorial Library, a branch of the Eastern Oklahoma Library System. Contact Heath at hallen@eols.org.
