The Eufaula Ironheads had to reschedule scrimmage with Warner on Thursday due to rain. However, Eufaula managed to get Holdenville to come to Paul Bell Stadium on Friday to scrimmage.
It appears that Koltyn Lane won the starting quarterback spot for the Ironheads. The junior quarterback showed why on Friday as he sliced through the defense and displayed his quickness and allusiveness. Eufaula was still without senior running back Peter Lee who is recovering from hernia surgery. Asher Box had a good scrimmage at running back. Box has the toughness to get you first down yardage. Receiver Gavin Holman and Zayvion Price looked good at receiver as they made a couple of plays.
Holdenville worked on their running game as they chose not to throw the football most of the scrimmage. It gave Eufaula an opportunity to see what they could do defensively. Luke Hodgins, Grayson McLaughlin, Simeon Hill, Brandon Bratton, Jax Hickman and Trevor Dodd were exceptional at their positions. The Eufaula gave Holdenville problems and limited what they could do.
This Friday the Ironheads will travel to Vian to face the Wolverines in the season opener. Eufaula head coach Larry Newton is 0-10 against Vian since his hiring in 2012.
Eufaula will kick off at 7 p.m. September 5.
