Lake Eufaula Out of Darkness Walk set for September 20

The Lake Eufaula Out of Darkness Walk is set for September 20. On-site registration begins at 5 p.m. and walk begins at 6 p.m. at the Eufaula Cove Pavilion. Organizer Sharina Little says there is still time to join the suicide prevention walk. Little started the walk a couple years back in honor of her nephew that she lost to suicide in 2018 just days before his 19th birthday.

“I have seen enough heartbreak from this deadly darkness, from my uncle to five classmates and then my sweet nephew in October of 2018,” Little said. “Losing someone is hard period, but losing them to suicide is devastated.”

Little’s middle child and her nephew were born only four days apart and had always been close. So when Brayden killed himself his freshman year of college everyone was at a total loss.

Little stated that living with the knowledge that this could have been 100% preventable is what breaks her heart.

“Being able to see the warning signs and not being afraid to talk about it will hopefully help other families is our hope.”

Michael Coon will be the special speaker for the event. The walk is free and there will be free resource tables also set up by several organizations across the area.

Tucker Leathers and Paxton Detroit will be performing as well.
