The Checotah Lady Wildcats lit up the diamond Friday night, cruising to a commanding 9-1 victory over the Central Lady Tigers, thanks to a stellar night at the plate from Layna Vandiver, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two singles.
Checotah wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Shyanne Madewell ripped a single to left, Vandiver followed with a shot down the rightfield line, and Lexi Miller grounded out to bring home another run, giving the Wildcats an early spark.
The momentum kept rolling in the second as Sydnie West’s groundout plated another run, pushing the lead to 3-0.
In the third inning, the Wildcats broke the game wide open. Vandiver smashed a double down the line, Shaelynn Casey answered with a rocket double of her own, and RBI knocks from Aurora and Teagan Madewell piled on the runs. By the time the dust settled, Checotah had stretched the lead to 7-0.
Inside the circle, Casey was steady and in control, surrendering just three hits and one unearned run over five innings while striking out two. She kept Central hitters off balance all game long.
Checotah was just as aggressive on the basepaths, swiping eight total stolen bases. West, Carly Dismukes, and Teagan Madewell each snagged multiple bags, keeping Central’s defense under constant pressure.
Central’s lone highlight came from Lily Kutil, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI. She, along with Keeley Poindexter and Charlie Petree, accounted for the Lady Tigers’ three hits.
Checotah falls to Muldrow in extra-inning heartbreaker The Checotah Lady Wildcats battled hard but dropped a tough 4-3 loss to the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs on Saturday. The game was deadlocked at three before Jaydin Dean’s RBI single in the top of the eighth put Muldrow ahead for good.
Checotah outhit Muldrow 5-4, with Carly Dismukes collecting two knocks. Aurora Madewell drove in two runs, including a clutch double to tie it in the fifth. Shaelynn Casey pitched eight strong innings, striking out three.
Despite seven team walks, the Lady Wildcats couldn’t push across the tying run late, falling just short in extra innings.
Miller’s big day propels Checotah Lady Wildcats past Wagoner Bulldogs
The Checotah Lady Wildcats battled their way to a hard-fought 7-4 victory over the Wagoner Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night, thanks in large part to a stellar performance at the plate by Lexi Miller.
Miller was unstoppable in the batter’s box, going 3-for-4 with a single in the third, another single in the fifth, and a booming double in the seventh to cap off her night. Every time she stepped up, she seemed to spark the Wildcats’ offense and keep the Bulldogs on their heels.
Checotah wasted no time striking first. In the top of the opening inning, Layna Vandiver ripped a single down the right-field line, forcing Wagoner to scramble. Two costly Bulldog errors opened the door, and Checotah took full advantage by pushing across two runs for an early lead.
The Wildcats kept applying pressure. In the third inning, with the count at 0-2, Miller refused to go quietly, lacing a sharp single down the left-field line to plate another run and extend the lead.
In the circle, Shaelynn Casey gave the Wildcats exactly what they needed—a gritty, complete-game effort. Casey went all seven innings, allowing just four hits and four runs (only one earned), while fanning nine Bulldog hitters. Her mix of power and precision kept Wagoner from ever mounting a serious rally.
On the other side, Wagoner’s Timber Maxey battled through seven innings as well, but the Wildcats’ bats proved too much. Checotah tagged her for 10 hits and seven runs (only one earned), never allowing her to settle in.
The Wildcats finished with 10 hits as a team. Alongside Miller’s three-hit performance, Casey helped her own cause with two hits, showing she’s as dangerous with the bat as she is in the circle. Vandiver also contributed a key hit and RBI to set the tone early.
Wagoner was led by Goose Hutchens, who went 2-for-2 at the plate, but the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome their defensive miscues, including one double play that was one of their few bright spots.
With the win, Checotah improves their momentum and confidence heading into their next matchup. The Lady Wildcats will be back in action Monday, taking on Glenpool, as they look to keep the bats hot and the wins coming.
