Not only did Oklahoma State fire their most successful coach in the school’s history in Mike Gundy 170-90 on Monday but they also fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on Sunday, six days later. The Cowboys opened up Big 12 play against Baylor this past Saturday and lost 45-27 in interim head coach Doug Meacham début. If this continues you can bet the players will be jumping off the sinking ship.
My biggest argument is if the administration respected Gundy as much as they say why didn’t they let him finish out the season? We’re talking about a person who came to Stillwater in 1986 as a player and later became an assistant and then the head coach for 21 seasons.
Anyone that knows anything about football is that you don’t want to make a coaching change in the middle of the season. By OSU’s administration pulling the plug on Gundy in week four it made Meacham’s job that much harder.
A lot of folks in the sports world consider Bill Belichick as football’s greatest coach. Did you know that when Gundy was fired that they both had a 1-2 record. That’s something to think about.
1-2-3 break.
