The Oktaha Lady Tigers made history twice this season after battling through 16 innings in a 1-0 win over Pocola, tying for the third-longest game in state fast-pitch history. Oktaha achieved their dream Saturday at Devon Park, ending Howe’s improb-able run with a 2-1 victory in the Class 2A state championship game. The win marked Oktaha’s first state title since 2006.
The third-seeded Lady Tigers (34-4) trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth inning when singles by Madison Capps and Kadence Strube set the stage for a rally. Kardin Robinson’s sacrifice fly to right field brought home Leah Colbert, who was courtesy running for Capps. Minutes later, Aubree Davis lined a 0-1 pitch into right-center, scoring Jocelyn Branan — running for Strube — to give Oktaha the lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Oktaha Schools shared this heartfelt message following the victory: “Coach Holmes and Coach Bacon have been instrumental in shaping the enduring legacy Oktaha Softball proudly upholds today. Former players spanning over a decade continue to show up to support our girls, our coaches, and our community. Great coaches don’t just build teams, they build legacies. They shape champions on the field and leaders for life.
Leaving a legacy in sports isn’t just about wins or records, it’s about impact. It’s about the hard work, dedication, and heart poured into every practice and every game. True legacy lives in the lessons taught, the bonds built, and the passion passed down through generations.
All attributes that each player, past and present, hold in the highest regard. If you’re an Oktaha softball alum, you know how much ‘family’ truly means. Because in the game of life, family is the true home plate and Tiger pride extends far beyond a diploma.”
