Jacob and Stephanie Smith, operators of a daycare center in Checotah, have been formally charged with multiple counts of child abuse.

They were arrested on Oct. 1 and at their arraignment on Oct. 7 Jacob, 32, was charged with four counts of child abuse, lewd or indecent acts as to a child under 16 and conspiracy while Stephanie, 28, was charged with one count of child neglect, one count of child abuse and conspiracy.

Bond for Jacob has been set at $2 million. Bond for Stephanie is set at $1 million.

Their next court appearance is scheduled at 9 a.m., Nov. 19 for a pre-preliminary conference.
