Beta Sigma Phi to meet

The local Beta Sigma Phi Chapter met Nov. 11, hosted by Shirley Davis and co-hostessed by Vicki Sisson. Social chairman Karen Martin-Harding led the group in a plan to watch the movie “Sarah’s Key” in Muskogee. Maura Wood explained that following her instructions we should be able to see the Aurora Borealis, and many shared pictures of the event afterward.

After the business meeting Sally Meador led the group in an enjoyable “Enlightened Lives” program using a skein of yarn to reveal interesting facts about each attending member. Vicki Sisson served a delicious pumpkin dessert to the chapter including the following: Shirley Davis, Wilnaette Griffith, Gayle Johnson, Karen Martin-Harding, Sally Meador, Gretchen Payne, Katie Smith and Maura McDermott.

The next December meeting will be hosted by Karen Martin-Harding.


BX of PEO to meet

Chapter BX of PEO met Nov. 18 for “Sisters Educate” by Lisa Vandewater with Sharlene Bell serving as hostess and Donna Sharpe as co-hostess.

Chapter BX of PEO will meet next on Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. for “Sisters Give” and a Christmas auction will be held with Karen Martin being the auctioneer. Karen Martin will serve as hostess and co-hostess will be the Social Committee.


Free Clothes Closet is open twice a week

The “Free Clothes Closet” is available for anyone in need — both kids or adults at the First Freewill Baptist Church located at 713 N. Broadway.

The closet is open Tuesday and Thursdays from 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Donation appreciated and appreciated. The closet is currently needing blankets, comforters and coats.


Oklahoma Retired Educators to meet

The McIntosh County Oklahoma Retired Educators Association (OREA) meets the second Friday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library. All surrounding area retired school personnel are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting. You do not have to live in McIntosh County nor do you have to have been a teacher to be part of this organization. Any support personnel and administrators are more than welcome to attend. Checotah Lions Club to meet

The Checotah Lions Club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays at noon in the Memorial Hall at the First United Methodist Church. Come join the Lions Club and help serve the community. For more information contact Lion President Jamie Hilbert at 918-616-5469.


Join the Chamber of Commerce General Meetings

The Checotah Chamber of Commerce General Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at noon. Contact them at 918-473-2070 or go by the Chamber located at 114 N. Broadway for more information. All Chamber members are encouraged to come.


The CLIPS meeting to adjourn for winter months

The Checotah Landmark Preservation Society has adjourned meetings for winter. Their general meetings will begin again the second Thursday in March of 2026, at the Katy Depot located at the corner Paul Carr Drive and Emmy’s Way. Anyone interested in joining CLPS is encouraged to contact Harriet Holder to be a part of preserving Checotah’s history.


DAV Monthly County Chapter #3 meets

The DAV McIntosh County Chapter #3 meets on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at 11092 S. 4184 Rd., Checotah (1/2 mile west off Canna Rd). Come be a part of the Disabled American Veterans. Get assistance in getting VA benefits or needed help filing a claim for VA disability contact Pete Langlin, DAV Commander for McIntosh County and veteran’s service officer at 918-869-2363 or Brian Moore at 817-271-2037.

Heartland Heritage Museum & Gallery open to the public

The Heartland Heritage Museum & Gallery is full of all kinds of history to include authentic Indian artifacts to legendary cowboy memorabilia to country icons like Checotah’s own Carrie Underwood. Come tour and learn everything the Heartland has to offer. The Heartland is open Mon. – Fri. from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday. Contact Kris Pair at 405-570-3569.


Checotah Art Guild starts new “Artist Challenge”

The Checotah Art Guild started a new monthly contest called “The Artist Challenge.”

Each month the CAG will pick a theme for a chance to win a gift card from Hobby Lobby, etc.

This incentive is for members only who have paid their yearly dues for members who want to join the Guild for $25 per year. Members and visitors are encouraged to come to Open Art days, Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is no charge for these art days except for the first Tuesday of each month when there is an instructor that works with members and visitors. It is $15 to participate.

Texanna Lady Crafters offer handmade gifts

The Texanna Lady Crafters Shop is a non-profit craft and gift store located on Texanna Road, 1 mile east of Highway 69 across from Dawns Place. Open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Stop by and shop for handmade gifts or take a photo in front of the Big Butterfly Board.


His Ability Ministries meet monthly

His Ability Ministries meet at 6 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 401 N. Broadway, Checotah. Come be a part of this ministry as God’s Word is shared while enjoying snacks, games and crafts for all ages and abilities.

Least of These Food Ministry monthly distribution

The Least of These Food Ministry offers free grocery distributions to anyone in Checotah or the surrounding area who struggles with food insecurities. Participants must provide ID and proof of residency. Grocery distribution is the third Friday of each month at 11 a.m. at the First Assembly of God located at 401 N. Broadway.


Eufaula Indian Community monthly meetings

The Eufaula Indian Community meets on the last Thursday of every month at 800 Birks Blvd. in Eufaula. We will notify you of any changes you can call the EIC office at 918-617-7587 to confirm.


Quilt Guild meets Wednesday

The Piece Makers Quilt Guild of Eufaula is a guild that promotes an interest in quilts, quilt making and other sewing projects. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Pied Piper Pest Control building located on the corner of 5th and Foley in Eufaula. Anyone interested is welcome to join us.


Monthly Giveback Day

Free community resources available at Under One Roof in Eufaula.

Come join us the 4th Tuesday of every month from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. for lunch.

Respite Vouchers available for seniors raising children

Are you caring for a relative child under the age of 18? Do you need a break? The Caregiver Program might be just what you’re looking for. Respite Vouchers are a total of $300 for a 3-month period. The Senior Raising Children can hire someone of their choosing to give them a much-needed break. Respite vouchers for caregivers

Are you caring for someone 69 years of age or older who needs help dressing, walking, transferring, bathing, eating or toileting? Do you assist someone with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s disease? The Caregiver Program might be just what you’re looking for. The Respite Vouchers are a total of $300 for a 3-month period. The caregiver can hire someone of their choosing to give them a much-needed break. There are no income guidelines for this program. Finding Hope

Finding Hope is a support group for loved ones who have been impacted by addiction. Find education and inspiration during meetings on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church. Contact information: findinghopeeufaula@gmail.com.


Weekly Al-Anon meetings

Al-Anon Meetings with 12 Step Recovery Program available every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 303 E. 3rd St. in Okmulgee, Uganda Martyrs Church.
