Oklahoma State Director of Athletics Chad Weiberg has named North Texas head coach Eric Morris as OSU’s 25th head football coach, pending board approval.
Morris, known for his explosive offenses and quarterback development, has coached or recruited stars such as Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward and more. His hire marks the first time since 1969 that OSU has hired a sitting FBS head coach.
Morris transformed North Texas in just three seasons, taking the Mean Green from 5-7 to 10-1 and into College Football Playoff contention. His 2025 team leads the nation in scoring and total offense and recently cracked the AP Top 25 for the first time since 1959.
Across 13 seasons as a head coach or coordinator, Morris’ teams have produced nine top-five passing offenses and ten top-10 total offenses. He has led elite units at North Texas, Washington State, Incarnate Word and Texas Tech, where he coached Mahomes and guided the nation’s No. 1 offense in 2016.
Weiberg called Morris “the perfect fit for Cowboy Football,” citing his leadership, player relationships and track record of building highpowered programs. Morris and his family — wife Maggie and sons Jack and George — will be introduced to the OSU community soon.
