Checotah gets first victories of the season at Haskell Tournament
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Checotah Wildcats (23) ended the tournament with a 43-37 win over Berryhill on Saturday. It was impressive victory as Checotah head coach Malcolm Warrior say his players give great effort throughout the tournament.

Checotah came out the first period playing great defense in the paint. Berryhill struggled except for Kam Simpson who scored six points but the Wildcats outscored Berryhill 12-9. Rowan Chapman drained a three-pointer and Koyah Littleman scored four points while Cooper Cutbirth and Wes Brown drove the paint and scored.

The second period was all defenses by both teams as each held one another to just four points.

Cole Rolland, Chapman and Little were fouled throughout the period sending them to the free throw line and scoring a combined 10 points and rolled on to outscore Berryhill 27-24 in the second half. Littleman led Checotah with 14, Rowan Chapman 11 and Cole Rolland finished with nine points.

Checotah loss to Keys 4744 on Friday and defeated Wagoner 58-36 on Thursday.

The Wildcats scored 30 points in the paint against Keys. They also grabbed 18 defensive rebounds. Koyah Littleman led the team with 19 points, Cole Rolland 12 and Rowan Chapman finished with seven points.

Lady Wildcats edge Okay 53-50 in round one of Haskell Tournament The Checotah Lady Wildcats defeated Okay 53-50 in a back and fourth battle on the hard-court on Thursday at Haskell. The Lady Wildcats rained down four, three-point shots to take a 14-10 lead. Carly Dismukes, Shyanne Madewell, and Kailynn Thrall scored from the perimeter for Checotah.

Okay began to battle back but Kalleigh York hit two, three-point shots to keep Checotah in front. Okay came out the third period and outscored Checotah 13-9. But several players played Okay tough. Nakia Carr, Addie Britt and Dismukes played tight defense in the paint throughout the period. The fourth period was a shootout as both teams combined for as both teams combined for 42 total points, (22 Checotah) and 20 Okay).

Madewell was on fire scoring 10 of her 15-total points. Dowdy hit from long range and Carr scored from the paint to earn a 53-50 victory.

Madewell led Checotah with 15, Carr 6, Thrall 6 and York 13 points.

Wagoner rolls over Lady Wildcats The Checotah Lady Wildcats (2-3) ran into a buzz saw on Saturday at the Haskell Basketball Tournament as Wagoner topped Checotah 59-33. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Checotah 19-8 in the first period and 18 to 10 in the second period. Wagoner was very efficient in the paint and forced Checotah to take high percentage shots while rebounding with authority.

Checotah guard Logan Dowdy was sufficient throughout the contest for the Lady Wildcats. Wagoner focused on lone Checotah senior Shyanne Madewell. They doubled teamed the senior point guard the entire second half and held her to zero points in the second half. Wagoner extended their lead to 53-25 to start the final period.

The large gap in scoring would prove to be too much for the Lady Wildcats to rally as they did outscore Wagoner 8-6 in the fourth period.
