Quarterback Drew Mestemaker — one of the nation’s top prospects in the transfer portal — will play for new coach Eric Morris next season at Oklahoma State.
He is the first player to join OSU via the transfer portal. He starred for Morris at North Texas last season and has agreed to a two year $7 million NIL deal with the Cowboys.
Running back Caleb Hawkins, a highly regarded running back from UNT, also is in Stillwater. Mestemaker and Hawkins each have three years of eligibility remaining.
Mestemaker led the nation with 4,379 passing yards dur- ing his redshirt freshman season. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 3 player available during this year’s portal cycle.
He was named the American Athletic Conference’s offensive player of the year and also won the Burlsworth Trophy, which is awarded to college football’s best player who began his career as a walk-on.
Hawkins, a Shawnee native, was the American Conference’s rookie of the year. He rushed for 1,434 yards and had a nation’s-best 25 touchdowns. He is the No. 6 player in the portal according to On3 Sports.
In the Mean Green’s win over San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl, he earned MVP honors after rushing for 197 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
