Eufaula cruises to 72-52 victory over Beggs Golden Demons
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Ironheads (173) cruised to a 72-52 victory over the Beggs Golden Demons Friday night at Beggs. It was a score for score game to start as the teams were tied 10-10 before Eufaula began to pull away as Logan Plant battled in the paint for rebounds and his teammates forcing turnovers and scoring in transition.

Seniors’ R’Reon Morrow, Jentry James, Keaton Parish and Brayden O’Brien led Eufaula. James had a hot hand early and scored back-to-back points before O’Brien flew to the goal for a score to lead 1910 to end the first period.

Ricky Smith led Beggs and scored 13 points to lead the Golden Demons. Smith would score the first four points in the second period before Ty Sparks hit a jumper. Plant was outstanding in the paint as he grabbed a rebound and passed it to Parish for a score to lead 23-14.

James then made a steal and score followed by Plants making a steal and another pass to Parish for a threepoint bucket to extend the lead 29-14. Smith would try to keep Beggs close but failed to do so as Morrow scored and Parish would go to the foul line to end the first half with a 32-23 lead.

Eufaula came out in the second half and controlled the game on both ends of the court. Eufaula’s defense was eye opening as Morrow, Sparks, James and Plant forced turnovers and watched as Parish and others scored in transition.

James scored nine of his 19 points in the third period as the Ironheads outscored Beggs 23-12 to take a 55-35 lead to start the final period.

Eufaula head coach Grant Callison’s continuous rotation of players wore out the Beggs players. Gabe Callison and Doltyn Lane played well coming off the bench and did an outstanding job on defense.

Eufaula’s high-octane offense and in your face defense led 69-49 with 2:52 remaining in the game. Eufaula finished with three players in double digits with James scoring 19 points; Parish 18 points and Morrow 16 points while Callison added seven points in the win.

Beggs conceded with 1:57 on the clock and put in their reserves to end the game 72-52.

Ironheads steamrolls Wampus Cats 97-48 Eufaula earned another road game victory as they defeated the Atoka Wampus Cats 9748 on Saturday.
