Ledger Folsom signs scholarship to play football at Southwestern College in Kansas
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

Ledger Folsom, a standout senior on the Vian High School football team, has signed a scholarship to continue his football career at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Folsom made his commitment official on National Letter of Intent Signing Day, penning his letter with the Moundbuilders football program and taking the next step toward playing college ball.

A key contributor for the Vian Wolverines, Folsom helped lead the team to an impressive 12-2 season and a runner-up finish in the Class 2A, Division II state championship this past fall. The Wolverines’ deep playoff run was one of the highlights of the season, and Folsom’s all-around play on offense was a major reason for the team’s success.

Folsom said the welcoming atmosphere from Southwestern College’s coaching staff made the decision an easy one. The Moundbuilders have plans to utilize him at the slot receiver position, where his speed and routerunning ability should make an immediate impact. With several receivers graduating this year, Folsom will have an opportunity to compete for playing time as a freshman — something he’s looking forward to with enthusiasm.

“From the start of the recruiting process they made me feel like I was part of something special,” Folsom said. “I toured campus and felt right at home, and I’m excited for the opportunity to compete at the next level.”

Vian head coach Gary Willis praised Folsom’s work ethic and character, saying he’s been a positive influence in the program since joining the Wolverines. “He fit right in with our team,” Coach Willis said. “He produced for us on the field and was one of those kids you meet and feel like family. We’re excited to see what he does at the next level.”

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Folsom has balanced his time on the field with academic success, including membership in the National Honor Society. His dedication to both facets of student life reflects the hard-working mindset that coaches and teammates alike say will serve him well at Southwestern College and beyond.

Folsom is the son of Kim and Rodney Folsom of Eufaula.
