Morning Rescue inspired by Paws N Claws pup
By LADONNA RHODES STAFF WRITER

Paws N Claws started their meager rescue efforts to save the local pound pups on January 26, 2024. Some of the first dogs ever adopted went out of state and one very lucky pup was adopted by Brad Shropshire and Eric Getty. Then the pup was flown to their home in Denver, Colorado and became one of the inspirations for their new coffee company, Morning Rescue.

“We adopted Fred from Paws N Claws back in February 2024, and it just felt right,” Shropshire said. “Growing up in Checotah, it was an easy decision to support Lori and LaDonna and the whole team from Paws N Claws. But that rescue call in February of ‘24 about adopting Fred—that’s when everything truly clicked and became real to us.

“We’ve been lucky enough to share our home with quite the crew of rescues—Fred from rural Oklahoma in the Eufaula pound, Dusky (our cat) from a Tennessee kill shelter, and our old man George, another rescue dog who survived the tough streets of Phoenix and recently crossed over Rainbow Bridge. Though it broke our hearts to say goodbye, ultimately saving them felt natural, and it reminded us so much of the work Paws N Claws does every day.

“That’s actually how Morning Rescue Coffee got its start—a brand built around giving pets a second chance. The idea for Morning Rescue was born on a quiet morning, sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee and our pets—yes, even the cat—by my side. As I sipped, I found myself wondering what kind of venture I could start that would not only reflect something I love, but also give back to others. Coffee felt like the natural choice because it’s part of my daily ritual and something I truly enjoy.

“Once the idea of coffee took root, the next question was: who should this business support? That answer seemed simple – rescues. We adore our rescue pets and in a way they rescue us for the better. That’s how the name came to life. Morning Rescue reflects both the comfort of coffee—the way it rescues us each morning— and the mission to support rescue pets that deserve the same love and care that our rescues receive.

“It truly breaks my heart to think of how many animals never get the chance to experience a loving home. I may never know what Fred, George or Dusky endured before joining our family, but I do know it’s our responsibility to spoil them, to surround them with love, and to honor the joy they bring us every day.

“Morning Rescue helps honor all rescues. It’s more than a brand; it’s a story of gratitude, compassion, and the belief that every pet deserves a second chance. With every purchase of Morning Rescue, we donate 10% of all our sales back to pet charities, which comes out to roughly half of our net proceeds.

“Our plans are to team up with Paws N Claws for a fundraising drive and make an even bigger impact together. We believe with Morning Rescue you will ‘Fuel Your Day. Help a Shelter Pet. One Perfect Cup at a Time.’ With expertly sourced beans, freshly roasted for bold flavor and smooth finishes, we have a variety of savory coffees for every palate.”

Samples of Morning Rescue’s best-selling coffees come in 2oz packs.

Some favorites include:

6Bean Blend – Dark Roast and House Blend -Great for Espresso meticulous blend of coffee from around the world Cowboy Blend – Dark Roast & Medium Blend -With both Dark and Medium roasted coffee. Cocoa, caramel, & vanilla tones Breakfast Blend – Medium Roast and House Breakfast Blend -Smooth blend of coffee from South America “From classic roast, like breakfast blend, blonde, Italian roast and cold brew we have you covered. We even offer a whiskey barrel-aged coffee that’s aged 30 days in a Bourbon barrel and then roasted to order.

“You just can’t go wrong with a great cup of Morning Rescue coffee in one hand and your rescue animal in the other.”
