Sallisaw Central Tigers claw past Lady Ironheads 50-34
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Sallisaw Central Lady Tigers defeated the Eufaula Lady Ironheads Monday night 50-34. The Lady Tigers quickly proved their dominance as they outscored Eufaula 15-6 to end the first period. The Lady Ironheads had difficulty guarding Paris Campbell and Sara Williams of Sallisaw Central. Kristee Thompson and Johna Bumgarner battled in the paint as they used their physicality to score as Eufaula trailed 25-13 at the halftime break.

The Lady Tigers used great defense to force turnovers or took Eufaula out of their shooting lanes as they outscored the Lady Ironheads 15-5 in the third period.

Ayana Siers and Hannah Needham competed at a high level at the guard position but Sallisaw used their size advantage to outrebound Eufaula on both ends of the court.

After a fiery speech from Eufaula head coach Jason Radomski the Lady Ironheads came out the fourth period with a chip on their shoulder. The Lady Ironheads played with aggression and determination as they outscored the Lady Tigers 16-10.

Campbell would seal the win with a score as she led all scorers with 18 points as the Lady Tigers won 50-34. Williams added 11 points for Sallisaw Central.

The Lady Tigers defense held Eufaula to zero double-digit scorers as Bumgarner and Thompson finished with seven points each and Ayana Siers added 6 points.

“This was a game we had marked on our calendars. We knew that Eufaula would be a tough game for us but we came out focused and started fast. That fast start is what carried us through the game,” Sallisaw Central assistant coach Tommy Gage said.
